Como ves el oxido de cerio como agente oxidante del grupo -OH para oxidarlo a una cetona? Y en general como agente oxidante?

El óxido de selenio es un agente oxidante muy versátil, que generalmente oxida la posición alfa al carbonilo que en este caso está bloqueada, por lo cual la oxidación del alcohol es viable.

Pero sobre el oxido de cerio, hay publicaciones y estudios? Seria viablre? Cual es su comportamiento general como oxidante?

Una disculpa, he leído mal, pensé que te referías al óxido de Selenio, el Cerio IV es normalmente utilizado para la generación de radicales, aunque normalmente se usa como nitrato de cerio amoniacal (CAN) en tu caso podría funcionar, en combinación como en el ejercicio anterior con TEMPO.

Cerium(IV) is most often used as the sulfate salt in H2SO4. Best results are obtained when the acid concentration is 0.5F or higher. Cerium(IV) can not be used in basic media because it precipitates as the hydroxide salt. Although cerium(IV) solutions are intensely yellow, it is not usually used as a self indicator. A redox color indicator, potentiometer, or other end-point detection system is used.

The cerium sulfate solution has the advantages of being made from a primary standard, its solutions are stable almost indefinitely, its stability is not affected by H2SO4 concentration and the reaction involves the production of only one product, Ce(III), which is colorless. Cerium(IV) can be employed in many of the same titrations as KMnO4.Table 12-3 reviews many of the applications. Solutions of the titrant can be standardized with As2O3(osmic acid or iodide ion as catalyst), sodium oxalate, pure iron (dissolve and adjust to Fe2+), and iron(II) ammonium sulfate. Color redox indicators usually used are ferroin, 5,6-dimethylferroin, or N-phenylanthranilic acid
