Aldehydes and ketones have acidic hydrogens in the neighboring position of the carbonyl group, known as the alpha position.
These hydrogens have a pKa between 18 and 21. The acidity of the α hydrogens is due to the stabilization of the conjugate base (enolate) by resonance.
